President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially commissioned the newly constructed Corporate Headquarters of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) in Abuja. The inauguration of the state-of-the-art facility, located on Kur Mohammed Avenue in the Central Business District, represents a pivotal moment in the federal government's ongoing transformation of the national revenue administration framework, overseen by NRS Chairman Dr. Zacch Adedeji.
The high-profile event was graced by numerous top government officials. Among them were Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and several cabinet ministers.
Several state governors were also in attendance, including the chairman of the Nigeria Governors' Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, alongside Governors Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Charles Soludo (Anambra), Usman Ododo (Kogi), Babagana Zulum (Borno), and Hope Uzodimma (Imo).
The new NRS complex is an impressive structure featuring 16 floors spread across three towers, designed to accommodate approximately 3,000 staff members.
This commissioning signifies the formal transition of the country's primary tax agency from the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to the NRS. This reform initiative is intended to bolster the nation's fiscal architecture.
President Tinubu assented to the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Act in June 2025, which officially established the NRS and replaced FIRS. This reform, effective from January 1, 2026, aims to modernize tax administration, unify revenue collection procedures, and enhance the efficiency of Nigeria's financial operations.
Under the leadership of Executive Chairman Zacch Adedeji, the NRS is expected to concentrate on automation, improving the taxpayer experience, and streamlining compliance processes in accordance with the new Act.
Distinguished personalities from both the public and private sectors were present. Notable attendees included HEIRS Holding Chairman and United Bank for Africa (UBA) Founder Tony Elumelu, Zenith Bank Chief Executive Officer Adaora Umeoji, Senators Ned Nwoko, Abdulaziz Yari, Abba Moro, and Ahmed Wadada, as well as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike.
