The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William and Kate Middleton, have publicly addressed the Epstein scandal for the first time. They conveyed their 'deep concern' over the information emerging from the Epstein Files, which has intensified scrutiny on Prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the brother of William's father, King Charles III.
Kensington Palace chose to speak out just before Prince William's three-day official visit to Saudi Arabia. A spokesperson for the royal couple stated, "I can confirm the Prince and Princess of Wales have been deeply concerned by the continuing revelations. Their thoughts remain focused on the victims."
This remark comes amid allegations that the former Prince shared confidential documents with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during his time as the UK's trade envoy.
Duncan Larcombe, a prominent Royal Family expert, described the Palace's intervention as 'unprecedented.' He indicated to Metro News that William is clearly troubled by his uncle's actions, stating, "What it tells us is William is furious with his uncle. He has clearly had enough of it. That is a clear and public dig at his uncle. It is very rare for a Royal to turn on a Royal."
Larcombe further noted that William and Kate's comments show their awareness that Andrew's behavior poses a risk to the monarchy itself. He added, "William is about to engage in this significant visit to Saudi Arabia. This is an attempt to prevent distractions over his uncle during discussions focused on trade. However, it may not be effective. This will likely overshadow the entire trip."
Andrew's reputation has deteriorated significantly following the exposure of his ties with Epstein, with the latest documents from the Department of Justice exacerbating criticism aimed at the former Duke of York.
The ex-Duke has consistently denied any wrongdoing, despite images released by the Department of Justice appearing to show him in a compromising position with an unidentified woman at Epstein's New York residence.
Further allegations detailed in the Epstein Files suggest that Andrew sought a sexual encounter with an exotic dancer, reflecting the scandal's serious nature.
