Professor Femi Otubanjo has raised alarms about Nigeria's potential exposure to geopolitical conflicts, linking it to ongoing global tensions involving the United States and former President Donald Trump’s military strategies.

During his appearance on The Morning Show on Arise Television on March 3, Otubanjo expressed concern that, following tensions with Iran, other nations such as Cuba and South Africa might become targets, with Nigeria being at risk if it does not enhance its nuclear deterrence.

He emphasized that the United States thrives on a military-industrial complex that necessitates ongoing warfare, noting the significant role of arms production in its economy.

Otubanjo highlighted that the US has intervened militarily across the globe more than 58 times.

He stated: "The military industrial complex in America is a constant, and they are always looking for war. As we speak, if you count the number of times Americans have intervened and fought, we are talking about over 58 times. So it’s an economy that is based on war."

He further elaborated, saying, "When Trump came in and was doing his usual boasting, ‘I can do this, I can transform. I can change the direction of the wind or challenge the direction of the sun,’ it was apparent that the military industrial complex hadn’t approached him."

Otubanjo added, "They seek conflicts as a means to sell their weapons. The United States stands to gain considerably from such actions. Moreover, Trump himself stands to gain from this turmoil."

He criticized Trump’s perspective, stating, "Trump is a delusional person. He believes that America has power and must exert it to acquire whatever it desires."

According to him, the cycle of aggression won’t stop with Iran; he warned that Cuba, South Africa, and if circumstances allow, Nigeria could be next. He remarked, "If you are not a nuclear power, then prepare for what’s to come with Trump."
