A British-born publishing heir has perished in a plane crash in Guatemala along with his expectant wife.

Harald Undrum, aged 53, and his 26-year-old wife Judith Mazariegos were onboard a Cessna 182P Skylane that went down under unclear circumstances near Villa Hermosa, located south of San Marcos, on Sunday, March 15.

The couple was not alone; they were joined by two other victims—a football player and a physician—who also lost their lives in the unfortunate incident.

Undrum was the heir to Christian Schibsted, the founder of Schibsted, a prominent Norwegian publishing and media company.

Judith’s family confirmed their demise to the Norwegian news platform Dagbladet.

Reports indicate that she was six months pregnant at the time the aircraft crashed, as stated by a rescuer during a broadcast on Guatemalan television.

Undrum was born in London but was adopted by the Schibsted family, who are well-known for their ownership of major newspapers across Scandinavia.

The unfortunate crash took place on Sunday evening in a hilly area within the Esquipulas Palo Gordo municipality.

Responding to an emergency alert, personnel from the Municipal Departmental Firefighters of the San Pedro Sacatepéquez station in San Marcos were sent to the location.

Rescue teams from units RD-30 and AD-122 of San Pedro Sacatepéquez, San Marcos, arrived at the scene soon after.

The General Directorate of Civil Aeronautics reported that a team from the Accident Investigation Unit was sent to the area to gather evidence and ascertain the cause of the crash.

Upon reaching the site, rescuers discovered the partially destroyed plane and found three deceased individuals. They successfully rescued a fourth occupant.

A firefighter's statement described the scene: 'Three fatalities were located: two adult males and a pregnant woman. A male survivor with serious injuries was stabilized and taken to the San Marcos Regional Hospital.'

Unfortunately, the man succumbed to his injuries later at the National Hospital of San Marcos, as reported by Guatemalan outlet Soy502.

Military authorities later affirmed that 'the Guatemalan Army stands ready to assist the public, working in close cooperation with civilian agencies during times of crisis.'
