Several individuals, including rappers Pooh Shiesty and Big 30, have reportedly been apprehended in connection with an alleged kidnapping and armed robbery incident that targeted rapper Gucci Mane at a Dallas recording studio earlier this year.
Pooh Shiesty, identified legally as Lontrell D. Williams Jr., is named as one of nine persons accused of orchestrating the January 10th event. The group is alleged to have kidnapped and robbed several victims at gunpoint within the studio. Sources indicate Pooh Shiesty was arrested this week, following accusations that he devised the robbery plot aimed at his own record label.
U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Ryan Raybould, stated at a press conference on Thursday that three music industry professionals had travelled to Dallas for a planned business meeting on January 10th. He explained that Williams Jr. had arranged the meeting under the pretense of discussing his recording contract terms with one of the victims.
Raybould further elaborated that upon entering the recording studio, Williams Jr., along with eight other conspirators who reportedly travelled from Memphis, Tennessee, executed a planned armed takeover. The allegations suggest that Williams Jr. brandished an AK-style pistol and compelled one of the victims to sign a release from their recording contract under duress.
According to prosecutors, the co-conspirators involved in the robbery with Pooh Shiesty allegedly absconded with high-value items, including Rolex watches, jewelry, and cash. The complaint filed also states that Rodney Wright Jr., also known as rapper Big30, purportedly prevented the victims from exiting the room by blocking the door.
Evidence suggests that within hours of the robbery, some of the stolen jewelry was displayed on social media by the defendants. All nine individuals implicated are facing charges of kidnapping and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
If found guilty, the defendants could face a maximum prison sentence of life imprisonment. The Department of Justice noted that Pooh Shiesty was reportedly on home confinement for a prior firearms conspiracy conviction from the Southern District of Florida at the time of the alleged crime.
