During a wrestling match in Kentucky on Thursday night, a serious incident occurred when referee Dallas Edwards faced a medical emergency after sustaining a significant impact in the ring.
The event, described as a "four corners of chaos" match, escalated when wrestler Brendan Balling attempted to execute a move from the top rope, while competitor Tony Evans reportedly pushed Edwards into Balling's path, resulting in a hard fall onto the mat for the referee.
Edwards hit his head during this collision, prompting Balling to initially check on him. However, the match carried on for a short time, even as Edwards lay on the canvas.
Observers reported that the atmosphere became increasingly disturbing when Edwards began to convulse in the ring. At one point, Evans pulled him towards the corner to remove him safely from the ongoing match before it was halted entirely.
After the incident, Edwards' girlfriend took to social media to provide updates, confirming that he had been hospitalized and was under medical observation. She stated, “I am not going to provide much more information at this time except to the parties who already know, but last night resulted in a brain injury that is being monitored and will continue to be monitored by doctors here.”
Balling later expressed worry for Edwards, calling him a respected figure in Ohio Valley Wrestling. He remarked, “One of the best guys I’ve been able to meet during my time at OVW.” Balling added, “Obvious accident, but can’t help but feel horrible about everything. Dallas will be back and better than ever and so will I.”
Despite the occurrence, Ohio Valley Wrestling is slated to continue with its planned programming, with events resuming on Sunday.
