Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), disclosed yesterday that repairs have commenced at the Kugbo Bus and Taxi Terminal, which was partially damaged by a rainstorm.
Wike made these comments after overseeing several project inspections, noting that the destruction was an unfortunate result of a natural disaster that was beyond anyone's control.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the incident took place on April 7, when a rainstorm removed a section of the terminal's roof and scattered debris across the Abuja-Keffi expressway.
The minister expressed gratitude that no lives were lost, clarifying that only the roofing material was affected and emphasizing that the terminal's structure remains intact.
Wike confirmed that repairs are currently in progress, stating, "A strong wind dislodged parts of the roof, but remedial work is ongoing."
According to NAN, the Kugbo bus and taxi terminal is one of three newly constructed terminals that were inaugurated in June 2025.
In July 2024, Wike launched the construction of bus and taxi terminals in Mabushi, Central Business District (CBD), and Kugbo, aimed at improving safety and convenience for commuters.
He further indicated that although the bus terminals in Kugbo and Mabushi were completed and inaugurated in 2025, they have yet to commence operations due to management issues requiring higher-level approvals.
The minister assured that the operational launch of the completed terminals would be forthcoming, pending the necessary clearance from the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
