A retired army officer was fatally shot during an assault in Anem Village within the Ikyurav-Ya region of Kwande Local Government Area, Benue State.

According to reports, the attack took place on February 8, 2026, around 5:00 p.m. The victim, identified as Chiayongo Jem’m, was allegedly targeted by suspected bandits associated with the Fulani herdsmen, as noted by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

A source revealed that the remains of the deceased were taken by family members to an undisclosed mortuary in Ikyogen.

In response to the incident, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Jato-Aka assembled a combined patrol team to investigate the area and search nearby bushes for the suspects.
