In response to a previous loss to Bayelsa United, head coach Finidi George made several changes to the starting lineup, bringing in captain Osagie Onisodumeya along with Wisdom Samuel, Chijioke Mbaoma, and Wasiu Falolu to bolster the attack.

The adjustments paid off quickly when Wisdom Samuel put Rivers United ahead in the ninth minute, creating a strong momentum for the team. The hosts maintained control of play throughout the first half, comfortably leading 1-0 as they entered halftime.

After the break, Rivers United continued to press and their efforts were rewarded in the 71st minute when Chijioke Mbaoma successfully converted a penalty, marking his first league goal this season.

El-Kanemi struggled to mount a counterattack, and Rivers United clinched an emphatic win in the final moments of the match when Samuel struck again in the 90th minute, completing his brace with a remarkable finish.

This victory not only restores Rivers United to the summit but also sends a bold message to their title competitors. With games in hand and renewed momentum, Finidi’s squad appears poised to maintain their grip on the championship chase.
