There are indications that Russia is offering intelligence assistance to Iran as hostilities escalate in the Middle East following recent strikes by the US and Israel.
The Washington Post has reported that Russian officials have allegedly supplied Iranian authorities with detailed data regarding the positions of American naval vessels and aircraft operations within the area.
According to sources referenced in the report, this intelligence-sharing initiative seems to be extensive and is characterized as "a fairly comprehensive effort." The situation arises amid reports that Iran's independent capability to identify US military targets has diminished due to recent military actions targeting crucial Iranian leadership and infrastructure.
Although Vladimir Putin has not commented publicly on these claims, such assistance would signal the first known instance of direct Russian support to Iran since the escalation of the conflict.
In related news, the White House has reported significant casualties suffered by Iranian forces in recent days. Anna Kelly noted that Iran's government is facing mounting challenges due to persistent military operations against it. She stated, "The Iranian regime is being absolutely crushed."
While Kelly refrained from specifically addressing the reports concerning Russia's provision of intelligence to Iran, she did mention that Tehran’s military strength is dwindling. "Their ballistic missile retaliation is decreasing daily, their navy is nearly destroyed, their production capabilities are severely impacted, and their proxies are hardly able to resist," she remarked.
It has also been noted by officials that despite ongoing close diplomatic cooperation between Russia and China, there is no evidence that China is offering comparable support to Iran.
These developments occur against a backdrop of escalating regional tensions, highlighted by drone and missile strikes targeting US installations throughout the Middle East.
In one such incident, several US service members lost their lives when an Iranian drone reportedly attacked a tactical operations center located at Port Shuaiba in Kuwait. In response, Donald Trump expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and cautioned that further American losses might arise as the conflict persists.
