A Russian man has been found guilty in a London court for physically assaulting a woman, an incident that was brought to the attention of UK law enforcement by Barron Trump, the youngest son of former U.S. President Donald Trump.
The assault took place in London, with the assailant being a Russian national and the attack observed on a video call by Barron Trump, who was situated in the United States at the time.
On January 28, Matvei Rumiantsev, 22, confessed to feeling envious of his girlfriend's friendship with 19-year-old Barron Trump, leading to his conviction for the assault.
During his cross-examination in court on January 23, prosecutors inquired about his jealousy regarding his ex-girlfriend's relationship with Barron. Rumiantsev remarked, "What I was really unhappy about was that she was frankly leading [Barron] on," as cited by Metro. He added, "I am being portrayed as a jealous person who can lose his temper due to jealousy. I want to just make clear that her actions towards [Barron] were wrong, and it was not fair. I was jealous to some extent."
It was alleged that Rumiantsev forcibly pulled the woman's hair and pushed her to the ground while yelling, "You are not worth anything."
As reported on January 28 by BBC and CNN, the jury determined Rumiantsev was guilty of assault.
In addition to the assault conviction, he was found guilty of attempting to pervert the course of justice after sending a letter to the woman while incarcerated, urging her to retract her accusations.
The Snaresbrook Crown Court acquitted him of other serious charges, including rape and choking the victim during the incident on the night when Trump contacted the police, as well as another rape and assault alleged to have occurred in November 2024.
Notably, Barron Trump, the only child of Donald and Melania Trump, did not provide testimony during the trial.
