The government of Kano State has declared that this year's Eid-el-Fitr Durbar will be led by the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II. This announcement comes alongside strict measures implemented to maintain law and order during the celebrations.

The decision, approved by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, emerged following credible intelligence suggesting potential unrest instigated by certain individuals during the Sallah festivities.

In a statement released on Wednesday by Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, the government emphasized its dedication to preserving the rich cultural heritage of Kano while prioritizing peace and security throughout the celebrations.

The statement outlined that the Hawan Idi (Eid Durbar) will take place under the leadership of Emir Sanusi, beginning at the Kofar Mata Eid Ground and proceeding through specified routes to Gidan Shettima, concluding at the Kofar Fatalwa area of the emir's palace.

Additionally, it was announced that the Hawan Nasarawa will occur in a modified version, without any horseback displays, while Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi will be temporarily suspended for public safety.

The government instructed all security agencies to enhance surveillance and ensure adherence to the guidelines established before, during, and after the festive period.

Residents are urged to remain calm, law-abiding, and to cooperate with security personnel, as well as to refrain from spreading unverified information.

The government reassured the populace of its commitment to ensuring a peaceful and smooth Sallah celebration, wishing all Muslims in the state a joyous Eid- el-Fitr.

The Durbar, a long-standing cultural tradition, has faced uncertainty this year due to conflicting statements from various government officials regarding its occurrence, particularly due to an ongoing legal dispute between Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero.

While Governor Yusuf reinstated Sanusi II in 2024, Bayero continues to legally challenge this decision, leaving the emirate status in contention. The government has hinted that a resolution to the stool controversy is forthcoming.
