A significant number of individuals have lost their lives, with many others sustaining injuries following an assault by terrorists in the Angwan Rukuba community, situated within Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Eyewitness accounts suggest the incident occurred around 7:00 p.m. The attackers, reportedly arriving in large groups mounted on motorcycles, began firing indiscriminately into the air and directly at a gathering of people at a well-known intersection in the vicinity.
The assailants commenced their shooting close to a prominent school, Plateau Private School, causing widespread panic as residents and individuals passing through the area scrambled to find safety.
Captain Chinonso Polycarp, the Media Information Officer, confirmed the occurrence of the attack while people were engaged in their regular daily pursuits.
He stated that the exact number of casualties has not yet been officially confirmed, though reports indicate that scores have died and a considerable number have suffered injuries.
Polycarp further mentioned that those who sustained injuries have been transported to medical facilities for necessary treatment.
He added that ongoing investigations aim to identify the perpetrators behind this attack, and security operatives have been dispatched to the location to prevent any further violence.
