A Secret Service agent designated to protect Jill Biden is reported to have accidentally shot himself while performing his duties at Philadelphia International Airport.
As detailed in a report by journalist Susan Crabtree from RealClearPolitics, the agent reportedly injured his buttocks, opposing earlier accounts that suggested the injury was to his leg. The incident is said to have transpired when the agent returned to his vehicle to find his phone, utilizing the flashlight attached to his service weapon for assistance.
A senior official within the Secret Service has confirmed the occurrence of the shooting but refrained from validating all aspects of the report. He stated, "It’s correct that the agent endured an unintentional, self-inflicted gunshot wound to his hip area. He received treatment at a local hospital."
However, the agency has been unable to corroborate claims that the firearm was being operated as a flashlight at the time of the incident. The official remarked, "It’s uncertain why he drew the weapon initially." Furthermore, the Secret Service has clarified that the injury was not to the leg as initially suggested.
This matter is currently being investigated by the agency’s Office of Professional Responsibility. Officials have mentioned that they will not be disclosing additional details while the examination is in progress. Despite the bizarre nature of the accident attracting attention, authorities stress that it is a serious safety concern.
