Military personnel from the 159 Battalion, in partnership with the Civilian Joint Task Force, have apprehended a suspected spy associated with terrorists in North-East Nigeria during an operation in Kanamma, Yobe State.

The apprehended individual, identified as Malam Fantami, a resident of Dikwa, was taken into custody during a coordinated security operation in the region.

Intelligence reports leading to his interception suggested that he was potentially functioning as an informant for the ISWAP terrorist group.

At the time of his arrest, authorities recovered several items from him, including a mobile device, a smartwatch, prayer beads, a motorcycle key, and a cash amount of N7,000.

An initial analysis of the suspect's mobile phone by military operatives reportedly uncovered various alarming materials, such as images of motorcycles, significant amounts of cash, and AK-47 rifles, alongside other items believed to be linked to terror-related activities.

These findings have raised serious doubts regarding the suspect's role, potentially as a logistics informant or intelligence source for insurgent factions active in the area.

Currently, he is being held in military detention, where he is undergoing extensive questioning to ascertain the depth of his involvement with terrorism networks and to uncover any accomplices.

Military officials have stated that this arrest is part of a broader counter- terrorism strategy aimed at dismantling the intelligence and logistical support systems that facilitate insurgents' operations in the North-East.

Kanamma, situated in the Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe State near the Niger Republic border, has remained a crucial area often used by insurgent groups for their movement and supply chains.
