Serena Williams has been confirmed as eligible to return to competitive tennis from February 22 by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). Despite this, it is still uncertain whether the celebrated 23-time Grand Slam champion will indeed return to the women's tour.
At 44 years old, she sparked interest late last year when she re-entered the anti-doping testing pool; however, she previously stated that this move did not indicate her intent to return to the sport after dominating it for nearly 20 years.
Speculation about her return reignited last month when she dodged questions regarding a comeback during her appearance on NBC’s "Today" show.
Williams, who last lifted a Grand Slam singles trophy in 2017, has been absent from competition since the 2022 US Open.
