Seven Injured, One Rescued After Two-Storey Building Collapses in Abuja

A two-storey building under construction in Jikwoyi, Abuja, collapsed on Friday, resulting in injuries to seven workers and the rescue of one trapped individual. The incident occurred around 11 a.m. while construction was ongoing.

A two-storey structure that was undergoing construction in the Jikwoyi area of Abuja collapsed on Friday, leading to injuries for seven individuals. One person who was trapped at the ground level has been successfully rescued.

The incident took place at approximately 11 a.m. as workers were present at the construction site. According to Nkechi Isa, Head of Public Affairs at the FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), 17 workers were on the upper floor of the building when it gave way. Five workers sustained injuries, while a single male worker on the ground floor was trapped.

Emergency services that responded to the scene included teams from FEMD, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Department of Development Control, the Engineering Department of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), the Civil Defence, the Federal Fire Service, and the FCT Police Command.

The injured workers and the rescued individual were transported to the Sisters of Nativity Hospital in Jikwoyi for medical attention and are reported to be recovering.
