Seven members of the military, including a Commanding Officer, lost their lives following a foiled terrorist attack on a military position in Monguno, Borno State. The incident occurred when troops from Sector 3 of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, engaged and repelled the attackers.
The confrontation took place around the Charlie 13 location late on April 12, 2026. A significant exchange of gunfire ensued, leading to the attackers' retreat, while the troops maintained control of their post.
Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for Operation Hadin Kai, stated that the Commanding Officer died while en route to the frontlines to evaluate the unfolding situation. His vehicle reportedly detonated an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), resulting in his death along with six other soldiers.
The military lauded the officer's actions as exemplary leadership and profound courage, emphasizing his advance into a dangerous area even after the immediate threat had been neutralised. His conduct was highlighted as a testament to bravery, selfless service, and a commitment to leading from the front to ensure troop safety and operational success.
Operation Hadin Kai extended its condolences for the fallen personnel, acknowledging their sacrifice as a lasting memory for the Armed Forces and the nation.
The North-East region continues to be an area of significant insurgency, with military forces actively engaged in ongoing operations against various terrorist groups operating in Borno and adjacent states.
