Seventeen Individuals Charged in Lagos for Public Urination and Defecation

The Lagos State Police Command has brought 17 individuals to court on February 19 for committing environmental offenses, specifically urinating and defecating in public places. These offenders appeared before the Magistrate Court located at Bolade, Oshodi.

Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, announced the outcomes on social media platform X, indicating that the court found all defendants guilty. Consequently, each individual was ordered to pay a fine of N40,000 or face one month of imprisonment.

Wahab emphasized, "Let this serve as a clear reminder that open urination and defecation are environmental offences and serious public health risks. Lagos State will continue to enforce sanitation laws firmly to protect public health, preserve human dignity, and maintain order in our communities. We urge residents to make use of available public sanitation facilities and comply with environmental regulations. Cleanliness is a shared responsibility."
