Shettima Travels to Addis Ababa to Represent Tinubu at AU Summit 2026

Vice President Kashim Shettima has left Abuja for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to act as the representative of President Bola Tinubu at the upcoming African Union (AU) Summit scheduled for February 2026.

On Thursday, February 12, 2026, Vice President Kashim Shettima departed from Abuja en route to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the forthcoming African Union (AU) summit.

A statement released by his Media Assistant, Stanley Nkwocha, highlighted that the theme of this summit will be 'Ensuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems to Achieve the Goals of Agenda 2063.'

The meeting aims to fortify the continent's commitments towards sustainable water management, enhanced sanitation systems, and the broader development objectives outlined in the AU’s Agenda 2063 framework.

While in Addis Ababa, Shettima is set to partake in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of AU Heads of State and Government, along with the 30th General Assembly, occurring on February 14 and 15, 2026, respectively.

Additionally, the Vice President is anticipated to engage in various high- level side events and bilateral discussions with political and business leaders from across Africa. These engagements are designed to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic, economic, and strategic partnerships throughout the continent, as stated by the Presidency.

Shettima is accompanied by several cabinet ministers and senior government officials. He is projected to return to Nigeria once his official duties at the summit conclude.
