Pop singer Sia has reportedly agreed to a substantial monthly child support payment to her estranged husband, Daniel Bernad. The agreement, detailed in court documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on April 6, mandates that Sia will pay Bernad $42,500 each month for the care of their young son, Somersault Wonder Bernad.
Sia, who is 50 years old, welcomed her third child, and her first with Bernad, on March 27, 2024. The stipulated child support payments commenced on April 1, 2026. This financial arrangement is set to continue until their child reaches the age of 18. Should the child remain enrolled full-time in high school beyond 18, the payments will extend until his graduation or his 19th birthday, whichever occurs first.
The agreement also outlines specific circumstances under which the child support obligation could cease earlier. These include the child's death, marriage, emancipation, or any subsequent court order.
Beyond the monthly financial commitment, Sia is also responsible for her son’s private school tuition fees. Additionally, she will cover the costs of extracurricular activities as mutually agreed upon, as well as any uninsured medical expenses. The singer is also obligated to ensure her son maintains health insurance coverage, according to the court filing.
To safeguard the child's financial future, the agreement includes further provisions. Sia is required to hold a life insurance policy valued at $5 million, with her son designated as the beneficiary. Alternatively, she must establish a trust that provides comparable financial support should she pass away before her son reaches the age of legal adulthood.
The former couple will share joint legal custody of their son. Physical custody arrangements are scheduled to commence on April 1, outlining a specific rotation for weekdays and weekends with Bernad. The agreement also includes a detailed plan for how holidays will be divided between them.
