There are strong indications that Ibrahim Lamido, the senator for Sokoto East, is close to resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to increasing conflicts with the party hierarchy in his state.
Sources close to Lamido indicate that his departure might happen within days, especially following a recent wave of defections by his supporters.
Already, prominent figures such as Kabiru Shehu, a former APC chairman for Goronyo Local Government Area and a previous sole administrator of the council, have left the party.
Shehu was also leading the APC faction supportive of Lamido.
A senior aide to Lamido, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the expected resignation is part of a larger coordinated decision among the senator's political followers.
The aide stated, "All his supporters are prepared to exit the APC, including the senator himself. It is merely a question of time."
While the specific motives behind this anticipated defection remain officially undisclosed, insiders suggest they stem from long-standing unresolved issues within the party's structure in Sokoto State.
The tensions reportedly intensified when factions loyal to Senator Lamido conducted parallel party congresses, forming their own executives at ward, local government, and state levels.
As of now, neither the senator nor the APC leadership in Sokoto has released an official comment concerning this situation.
