A distinguished Islamic scholar from Sokoto, Professor Mansur Ibrahim Sokoto, has voiced concerns regarding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's disregard for Muslim interests following his electoral win in 2023.

During his Eid sermon on Friday in Sokoto, the cleric indicated that Tinubu's Muslim-Muslim ticket was merely a tactical approach to securing political power, and he emphasized that Muslims, particularly in the northern region, have not seen any benefits from his administration.

He stated, "Tinubu won the election in 2023 using the Muslim-Muslim ticket, yet Muslims are currently facing hardships under his leadership. His focus does not appear to be on the welfare of Muslims or the Islamic faith.

"The predominantly Muslim northern region does not seem to be a priority for him either. His main concern appears to be Lagos, where his allies are largely Christians," Professor Ibrahim added.

He further advised other Islamic clerics against endorsing Tinubu in future campaigns based solely on religious affiliations and urged a focus on tangible achievements, if they exist.

He remarked that Nigerians should evaluate the president based on advancements in crucial areas such as education, healthcare, agriculture, business, the economy, and electricity.

"Anyone who intends to campaign for Tinubu should provide us with evidence of what he has done for us. If there are no achievements to highlight, we should be allowed to consider alternative candidates for potential relief," he stated.

Efforts to elicit a response from the Presidency regarding these claims were unsuccessful, as communications sent to presidential representatives had not been returned by the time of this report.
