Authorities in South Africa are looking into a case of murder and suicide following an incident where a man allegedly shot his wife and subsequently took his own life.
This tragic event occurred on February 8, 2026, in the vicinity of Twin City Mall, located in Burgersfort, Limpopo.
Law enforcement officials responded to reports of a shooting around 1:54 PM on Dirk Winterbach Street, adjacent to the mall.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered a man and woman lying in the passageway with gunshot injuries.
Both individuals were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they ultimately succumbed to their injuries.
According to police reports, the initial investigation suggested that the woman was standing near the passageway next to Dirk Winterbach Street when a blue Audi sedan, with Gauteng license plates, pulled up beside her.
The driver reportedly exited the car, approached the woman, and shot her before turning the firearm on himself.
The reason behind this tragic act remains unclear at this time, but officials have indicated that domestic issues may be a factor.
During the investigation at the crime scene, police recovered a firearm used in the shooting along with several empty cartridges. A further inspection of the suspect's car revealed a rifle, 21 rounds of live 9mm ammunition, and 18 rounds for the rifle.
Preliminary findings indicate that the firearms and ammunition belonged to the shooter. Authorities are currently working to uncover how the suspect obtained the weapons. The blue Audi used in the crime has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
The victims have been named as Jerry Gumede and Thobile Gumede, the couple at the center of this tragic event.
