A suspected armed robber has died following an incident where he jumped from the back of a moving police vehicle while trying to evade custody in the Savannah Region of Ghana.
The individual, identified as 30-year-old Mumin Kresi, was arrested on March 23, 2026, in Daboya during a police operation that was guided by intelligence, having been lured out from his hideout.
During questioning, Kresi allegedly confessed to his participation in the robbery, revealing that one of the firearms utilized in the crime had been concealed at his home in Yerezori, while a second weapon, along with stolen cash and mobile phones, was with an accomplice named Berra.
According to a police source, on March 29 around 3:40 a.m., the suspect was being escorted by officers to his residence in Yerezori to locate the weapon.
While in the back of the police vehicle with two officers, Kresi unexpectedly jumped out of the moving car, landed on the ground, and became unconscious.
Emergency services rushed him to St. Ann’s Hospital in Damongo, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
His remains have been sent to the hospital morgue, awaiting preservation and further examination.
After the incident, a team from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (RPID) attempted to recover the weapon from Kresi’s home but were unsuccessful.
Kresi's wife, Ajarah Kadija, reported to the police that Berra, identified as an accomplice, had visited their house the night before and taken away an unknown item.
Investigations into the robbery and the whereabouts of the remaining items, including the second weapon, are ongoing.
