Taiwo Awoniyi, the striker for Nottingham Forest, is potentially facing disciplinary actions from the English Football Association following his goal celebration in the 3-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
Coming off the substitute bench, Awoniyi scored the decisive third goal, crucial for Forest as they aim to steer clear of relegation.
During the celebration, the 28-year-old removed his shirt, which resulted in an automatic yellow card. However, he may encounter further penalties for unveiling a religious slogan stating 'God is the greatest'.
According to Law 4 of the International Football Association Board, players are forbidden from showcasing political, religious, or personal messages.
The rule emphasizes that equipment must not display any political, religious, or personal inscriptions. Players are also prohibited from revealing any undergarments featuring political or religious statements or other advertising aside from the manufacturer’s logo.
"For any offence, either the player or the team will face sanctions from the competition organizer, the national football association, or FIFA," the regulation further outlined.
