Taraba Police Apprehend Individuals Linked to Killing of Three Officers

The Taraba State Police Command has announced the arrest of suspects involved in the ambush and killing of three police officers last month. The operation also led to the recovery of the officers' service firearms. Authorities are continuing efforts to find other individuals connected to the incident.

Authorities in Taraba State have successfully apprehended individuals suspected of killing three police officers in the Tse Kwe, Tor Damisa area of Donga Local Government Area.

The Taraba State Police Command confirmed the arrests, stating that the officers – CPL Raphael Danjuma, PC Ebenezer Daniel, and PC Samuel Bawa – were ambushed and killed by militias last month. The suspects, identified as Suleman Abdullahi and Idris Kauri, are now in police custody and face legal charges.

According to the command's acting Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Mshelizah, the investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on locating and arresting other accomplices who remain at large. A significant development in the case is the recovery of the three service firearms that were taken from the deceased officers.

The statement detailed the Commissioner of Police, CP Morkwap S. Dongshal's, commitment to enhancing security across Taraba State. Upon resuming duty, the CP initiated enhanced visibility policing in major towns and highways. He also conducted on-the-spot security assessments in volatile areas of Takum and Donga Local Government Areas.

During his visit to Takum, CP Dongshal engaged with local security stakeholders, including traditional rulers and community leaders, to gather intelligence and strengthen community-police partnerships.

Following the assessment in Takum, the CP visited Tse Kwe Tor Damisa in Donga LGA, the site of the officer's ambush. The subsequent breakthrough led to the arrest of Abdullahi and Kauri, both residents of Akente Village in Donga LGA.

In a separate operation, officers from Zing Divisional Police Headquarters intercepted two suspects, Torme Terzugwe and Job David, along with 304 rounds of live cartridges, while they were travelling on an unregistered motorcycle. Investigations into this matter are also proceeding.

The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command's dedication to eradicating criminal elements from the state and stressed the importance of continued collaboration with community leaders and the public. Members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, embodying the Command's watchword: “If you see something, say something.”

The Taraba State Police Command reiterated its commitment to professionalism, human rights, and the rule of law, aligning with the vision of the Inspector- General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu. The Command expressed gratitude for the support from the press and the general public in maintaining peace and security.
