A 10-year-old boy has tragically lost his life after being violently attacked with a machete by his father, who has since been shot dead by police. The child’s mother, who was also gravely wounded in the incident, is currently fighting for her life in the hospital due to severe injuries to her arms and legs.
This alarming event took place near a well-known holiday destination and has left residents of Cabo Blanco, a small village close to the popular resort of Los Cristianos in Tenerife, in utter shock.
The boy succumbed to his injuries earlier today, February 20, following an alleged assault by his father inside their residence.
Authorities were called to the scene by midnight, around 1 a.m., following reports of an armed individual within the house.
Upon arriving, police encountered a standoff. The situation escalated when the suspect, a 34-year-old man, attacked a police officer with the machete.
Described as extremely violent, the suspect was shot and killed by the police on the spot.
The officer who was injured during the confrontation has been admitted to the hospital, where he is undergoing treatment and is expected to have surgery. Thankfully, initial assessments indicate that his life is not in danger.
The local police of Arona collaborated with the Civil Guard to assist the injured woman, applying a tourniquet to manage the severity of her wounds.
In her first comments regarding the incident, Arona's mayor, Fátima Lemes, confirmed the tragic occurrence to Canarias Radio. She stated that multiple calls had been received reporting the presence of an armed individual in the home. Upon searching the property, authorities discovered the boy’s lifeless body.
