The final group of worshippers kidnapped from First ECWA Aiyetoro Kiri in Kogi State has been freed, bringing closure to an arduous ordeal.

On December 14, 2025, armed assailants raided the church, abducting numerous worshippers.

The Aiyetoro Kiri Bunu Development Association (AKBDA) announced on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, that their release resulted from weeks of steadfast negotiations, appeals, and considerable financial support from the community, families, and other well-wishers.

As stated in their announcement, seven of the abducted individuals were released on January 1, 2026. Negotiations were ongoing despite the emotional distress and financial burden, resulting in the release of three more individuals on January 12, 2026, followed by an additional fourteen the next day.

The release of the last six individuals recently marked the conclusion of this harrowing situation.

AKBDA highlighted that the endeavor to secure the release of all those kidnapped required “significant resources” and unwavering determination, describing the final outcome as a reflection of resilience, collective sacrifice, and faith.

The association expressed heartfelt gratitude towards God, the families involved, local community members, friends, and supporters who provided assistance during this challenging time, deeming it as one of their most difficult periods.

In closing, AKBDA offered prayers for sustainable peace and security in Aiyetoro Kiri and Bunu land, expressing hopes that such unfortunate events would not be repeated.
