Laila Thompson-Wainer, who was formerly engaged to NFL player Tez Johnson, has come forward with claims that he was unfaithful to her on the very day he proposed to her.
Speaking on TikTok to her audience of more than 200,000 followers, Thompson- Wainer shared her story this week, stating that Johnson betrayed her trust on the same day he made a commitment to her one year ago.
"A year ago today, I got engaged and later found out he cheated on me the same day he proposed," Thompson-Wainer narrated. "So I thought we would reflect on February 21 together over how crazy that is. No, I’m just kidding; I don’t know why I’m laughing. It’s really not funny. It was really traumatizing."
She continued by explaining her emotional state, saying, "This morning I woke up, not sad because of him. There’s no reason I would ever want to be with someone like that, but more so just weighing on me the grief of when I believed people were inherently good. I spent 23 years of my life believing in the good in people as a default. In the last year, one of my biggest takeaways has been that there are some evil people out there. I hadn’t encountered that before, and that’s a privilege."
Thompson-Wainer went on to recount the timeline of their engagement day, beginning with their time at their Orange County apartment. The couple then visited a reptile zoo accompanied by Johnson's hairstylist and her son before returning to their apartment, where she believed a photoshoot was planned, not suspecting a proposal.
"We arrived at this beautiful venue in the hills," she remembered. "I walked up the driveway, heard music, and saw this stunning floral setup right out of my childhood dreams. He got down on one knee, placed the ring on my finger, and I remember feeling my cheeks hurt from smiling so much."
After the engagement, the couple took photos at the beach before having dinner at a sushi restaurant and returned home.
Later, Thompson-Wainer discovered that Johnson, who is 23, had sent a message to his ex-girlfriend earlier that morning. In the TikTok post, she displayed a screenshot of the text, which read, "need your throat."
The screenshot also contained a message from the previous day saying, "I need to see you like idk what else to say I think we have to," and another text from two days prior: "Whatever team I visit, we can just meet there and when I come down there."
Following the engagement dinner, Johnson reportedly reached out to his ex again, with Thompson-Wainer revealing another screenshot that included a highly inappropriate message.
"When can I c in you and f* you like I want to?" read the text.
Thompson-Wainer expressed her disbelief, stating, "I’ve given up trying to understand how someone can be that evil. I think you just have to be a sociopath, and that’s just it at the end of the day."
She concluded her video by explaining her motivation to share her story, saying, "Let me utilize the blueprint of a bad man to foster discussions about healing and build a community of women. If I could make one person feel seen, heard, or understood, then I have achieved my goal."
Ending on a powerful note, she declared, "Don’t you dare try to silence me again."
