Authorities in Ondo State have detained three suspects linked to a reported kidnapping incident involving a mother who was abducted in front of her child in Akure.
The arrests occurred after CCTV footage of the kidnapping was disseminated on social media, showing the suspect's actions in the Oda neighborhood of Akure. In the video, the victim, a woman, was taken while her child rushed into the house as the abduction transpired.
In a statement issued on Sunday, March 22, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the spokesperson for the police command, indicated that following the emergence of the CCTV footage, the police promptly deployed their intelligence team. They employed digital surveillance techniques alongside coordinated field operations, which facilitated the identification and capture of the suspects.
According to Jimoh, police acted on credible intelligence and investigative leads from the footage, leading the command's Anti-Kidnapping Squad to conduct focused operations. This resulted in the apprehension of one suspect, who subsequently provided crucial information that assisted in the prevention of the kidnapping and the arrest of two additional accomplices depicted in the footage.
"Initial investigations have shown that the suspects were involved in different capacities in the alleged kidnapping. They have been identified as Mohammed Koro, a 27-year-old male; Muhammad Usman, aged 30; and Musa Alhaji, 23 years old," Jimoh disclosed.
Moreover, the coordinated efforts have led to the successful rescue of three individuals who had been previously kidnapped by the same group: Tosin Adesida, a female; and two males, Adeniran Adesuyi and Adewunmi Adewusi. After their debriefing, the victims were taken to the nearest hospital for medical care. Jimoh noted that the suspects have provided valuable confessions that are contributing to the ongoing investigations aimed at capturing other members of the criminal group. The suspects will face legal action once investigations are finalized.
