President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a pledge of N5 billion aimed at aiding victims of the devastating fire that occurred at the Singer Market in Kano. In addition, the Progressive Governors’ Forum has thrown in an extra N3 billion, making the total monetary support for the victims amount to N8 billion.

During a visit to Kano on Monday, Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing the President, expressed the federal government's sympathy towards the impacted traders. He emphasized that this financial aid is meant to deliver immediate support instead of serving as compensation for their losses.

Shettima assured those affected that the government would collaborate with Kano State officials to alleviate their hardships and help them recover from this incident.

Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, made the announcement regarding the N3 billion donation on behalf of his fellow APC governors.

In the wake of their market visit, Shettima, along with Uzodinma and other APC governors including Nasir Idris (Kebbi), Uba Sani (Kaduna), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), and Dikko Radda (Katsina), attended a political gathering at the Sani Abacha Stadium to welcome Governor Abba Yusuf into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

While receiving Yusuf into the party, Shettima highlighted the political significance and influence of Kano State, asserting that its interests cannot be overlooked in national matters.

"Wherever Kano moves, the nation moves with it," Shettima stated. "Today, we gather to welcome one of Kano's sons into our fold."

After being handed the APC flag as the party leader in Kano State, Yusuf expressed gratitude for the warm reception and committed to promoting inclusive governance.

"What counts is the progress of Kano, not my comfort," he remarked. "Kano's strategic importance means our connection to the federal government should remain strong. My choice was made out of duty, not self-interest."

He also praised President Tinubu’s reform agenda, asserting that Kano should align itself with national goals centered on job creation, security, and infrastructure improvement.

APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, formally presented the party flag to Yusuf, referring to his defection as a significant political advantage for the party. He remarked that feedback from diverse groups in Kano indicates a growing backing for the ruling party.

Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin likewise welcomed Yusuf, promising full party backing for what he termed the governor’s "Kano First Agenda."

Former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje, indicated that Yusuf's joining has fortified party unity within the state.

Additionally, during a courtesy meeting, the APC leadership and Governor Yusuf negotiated a 60–40 leadership distribution framework between new members and current APC affiliates in Kano State. Party officials noted that this approach is intended to enhance inclusivity, foster unity, and promote active participation in party matters.

Yusuf reiterated his resolve to work closely with party leaders to ensure that Kano remains united and aligned with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
