President Bola Tinubu has mandated the Renewed Hope Ambassadors to provide rice to Nigerians to support those observing the current Ramadan fasting among Muslims and Lent among Christians.
Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who also serves as director-general of the group, announced this initiative.
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors is a campaign organization established to garner support for the president and his bid for a second term. Governor Uzodinma stated that the members of the group will manage the distribution of rice throughout the country.
“This initiative reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to unity and compassion. Ramadan and Lent are periods that remind us of sacrifice, generosity, and kindness towards one another. Through this distribution, the Renewed Hope Ambassadors will ensure that families in Nigeria embrace the spirit of togetherness during this sacred time,” Uzodinma remarked in the statement.
Analysts anticipate that this announcement may stir debate among political observers, who might interpret it as a precursor to the 2027 election campaign.
Typically, such distributions by political campaign groups are conducted along party lines, and the financing details are often kept private. In his statement, Governor Uzodinma did not disclose how the group plans to fund the rice distribution or specify the quantity of rice to be provided.
The president's directive is aimed at enhancing national cohesion and showcasing compassion during a spiritually significant timeframe for both Muslims and Christians.
Past efforts included a similar initiative during the previous Christmas season, when rice was distributed to assist Nigerians celebrating the holiday. This ongoing support exemplifies the administration’s resolve to stand by its citizens during key religious and cultural occasions.
In his communication, Uzodinma emphasized that both Christian and Muslim communities will benefit from this nationwide effort, demonstrating the president’s commitment to inclusivity and shared national values.
The distribution will be conducted through the grassroots network of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, which includes state, local government, and ward structures for effective outreach.
The Governor of Imo State signed off on this statement:
"This initiative highlights President Tinubu’s dedication to support citizens during the fasting seasons while promoting interfaith harmony."
Signed,
His Excellency
Hope Uzodimma
