The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu’s reforms have averted economic turmoil for more than 27 states across Nigeria.
Idris made this remark while speaking at the 34th Convocation and 43rd Founders’ Day ceremony of the Federal University of Technology in Minna on Saturday.
He highlighted that his comments centered around the topic, “Youth and Nation Building: Navigating Opportunities in an Era of National Reforms.”
The minister stated that prior to May 29, 2023, nearly 27 states were unable to meet their payroll obligations.
“During his campaign, President Bola Tinubu visited various parts of the country proposing a vision for a greater Nigeria.
“Upon assuming office, he rolled out reforms that have successfully rescued these states from the brink of collapse.
“Currently, these states are receiving financial allocations three times higher than before, enabling them to meet salary commitments, initiate large- scale infrastructure projects, and ultimately provide better governance to their citizens,” asserted Idris.
He emphasized that the successful implementation of these reforms and strategic leadership has been key to this progress.
Idris also underscored Tinubu’s understanding of the necessity for ongoing reforms to rectify past errors and facilitate national development.
“There cannot be meaningful nation-building without consistent reforms. Without these modifications, building a nation becomes untenable,” he remarked.
He concluded by stating that these reforms shielded the nation from the adverse effects that could arise from a lack of action in this regard.
