A three-member council is slated to take charge of governing Iran temporarily after the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The council comprises President Masoud Pezeshkian, judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, and a member from the Guardian Council, as reported by Iranian state media on Sunday.
This trio is expected to oversee governance until the Assembly of Experts, which consists of 88 prominent clerics, selects a new successor.
According to Iranian legislation, the Assembly of Experts is required to appoint a new supreme leader swiftly.
The identity of the individual who may follow Khamenei, who was killed in extensive attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel, remains uncertain.
