Troops involved in Operation Hadin Kai have revealed the identity of a Boko Haram combatant who was neutralised during an ambush operation, unmasking him as a prominent specialist in the fabrication of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
The fighter was identified as Habba Umar, who is also referred to by the nickname 'Bomma'. His expertise reportedly extended to both IEDs and vehicle- borne improvised explosive devices (VBIEDs), with connections to both Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), as stated by security analyst Zagazola Makama.
Sources indicate that Umar operated within a region surrounding Arena Wuje, where he was instrumental in training members and coordinating their activities involving explosive devices.
Further intelligence has suggested that he may have been implicated in prior IED-related incidents occurring along the Marte–Dikwa corridor and segments of the Lake Chad basin, although ongoing investigations aim to clarify the full scope of his involvement.
Additionally, troops managed to recover items and electronic devices from the ambush site, which are currently being analyzed for intelligence purposes to enhance counter-terrorism efforts.
Military officials reported that operations in the broader area continue, with forces maintaining pressure on insurgent groups and their support networks across the operational theatre.
