Donald Trump's multi-billion dollar defamation case against the BBC is poised to begin in February 2027, as indicated by court filings. The trial is set to occur in Miami and will continue for a duration of two weeks.

The lawsuit arises from a Panorama segment which Trump claims misrepresented his remarks, suggesting that he endorsed the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. His legal team has labeled the editing as "false and defamatory," seeking damages for the purported harm incurred.

While the BBC has previously expressed regret over the edits, it has dismissed Trump's demands for compensation, asserting that there are insufficient grounds for a case of defamation or any claims pertaining to trade practices. The media house intends to submit a motion for dismissal by March 17, 2026, arguing that the Florida court lacks personal jurisdiction, the venue is inappropriate, and Trump has inadequately articulated a claim.

A ruling from a Florida judge recently declined the BBC's motion to postpone the discovery process, branding the request as "premature." This means both parties are required to continue sharing relevant documents and evidence in preparation for the trial.

A spokesperson for the BBC stated: "As we have previously indicated, we will be defending this case. We will refrain from commenting further on ongoing legal matters."
