Two individuals tragically lost their lives and at least ten others sustained injuries in the early hours of Tuesday due to an accident involving an articulated truck close to the Tipper Garage area along the Dutse-Bwari highway in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Felix Theman, the FCT Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), verified the incident to Abuja Metro, stating that the crash transpired at roughly 8:47 am. He reported that both deceased were adult women.

The injured parties included seven males and one female. One victim succumbed to injuries at the accident scene, while the other passed away later at Kubwa General Hospital, where all the injured were transported for medical attention.

A source from the hospital revealed that many of the survivors remain in serious condition. In a later statement disseminated by the FRSC to Abuja Metro, it was determined that the accident was caused by brake failure. The truck was reportedly en route from Usuma Dam in the Bwari area towards Dutse- Alhaji.

According to an eyewitness, Ose Idahosa, the truck collided directly with two vehicles that were stopped at a traffic light, in addition to four commercial tricycles waiting at the junction for passenger pick-ups or drop-offs. He noted that the lane impacted was closed off for nearly an hour while officials worked to clear the wreckage and the truck’s cargo, which was comprised of plastic containers.
