A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday night, February 4, when a helicopter belonging to the Arizona police crashed while it was actively responding to a shooting, leading to the deaths of two people on board.
The fatalities include the pilot and a paramedic trooper who worked for the Arizona Department of Public Safety, as confirmed by local authorities on Thursday, February 5.
Footage circulating online captured the helicopter's descent as it fell from the sky.
The names of the individuals who lost their lives have not yet been disclosed.
Local resident Amanda Brewer, who called 911 to report the gunfire, described her experience to AzFamily, saying, "You could hear the blades going. Then there was a very large crash; it shook the house. It was startling."
Brewer reported hearing over 20 gunshots in her Flagstaff neighborhood, where the event unfolded.
Additionally, video footage showed flames engulfing a forested area, prompting officials to advise local residents to shelter in place.
The suspect involved sustained non-fatal injuries after engaging with law enforcement and has since been apprehended, according to police reports.
Authorities have not yet provided information on what caused the helicopter crash, and investigations are ongoing.
