On Friday, the police in Lagos brought charges against two men in front of a Chief Magistrate’s Court located in Ikeja, Lagos State, for their alleged involvement in the rape of an 11-year-old female victim.
The accused are Prince Tomnyie, 40, a businessman residing in Agege, and Micheal Adenuga, 24, who works as a furniture maker and lives on Atere Street in Lekki.
Both individuals are facing charges of statutory rape, to which they have pleaded not guilty.
The court heard from prosecutor Adegoke Ademigbuji, an assistant superintendent with the police, that the crimes were reportedly committed in December 2024 and September 2025 in the areas of Langbasa Ajah and Igbara Lekki, Lagos.
In presenting the case, the prosecutor noted that the girl’s father had taken her for a medical examination, which revealed evidence of defilement.
Further allegations surfaced when the victim disclosed to her father that Tomnyie, a friend of the family, had previously assaulted her. Additionally, the child mentioned the name of the second defendant, Adenuga, as someone who also resided nearby.
This violation of the law is in direct conflict with section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, L. A Owolabi, granted bail to both defendants set at N600,000 each, along with two sureties for each.
The hearing has been postponed until March 5 for further proceedings.
