A Special Anti-Cultism Court presiding at the Magistrates’ Court in Abeokuta has sentenced two individuals to prison following their convictions for cultism and illegal possession of firearms.
The offenders, identified as Michael Akinola, aged 34, and Adeniyi Adeyemi, 39, were found guilty on three counts that included conspiracy, participation in an unlawful society, and illegal possession of firearms.
In delivering the judgment, Magistrate O.L. Oke confirmed that the prosecution had established its case convincingly and that the evidence presented was substantial.
Akinola received a seven-year sentence for conspiracy and an additional seven years for being part of the unlawful Aiye Confraternity. Furthermore, he was sentenced to ten years for the unlawful possession of two homemade pistols and a live cartridge without authorization.
Adeniyi was also convicted on the first two counts, attracting a seven-year prison term for each count. The sentences are to be served concurrently without the possibility of a fine. Akinola is to serve his sentence at the Oba Correctional Centre, while Adeniyi will be imprisoned at the Ibara Correctional Centre.
Earlier, the prosecuting officer, ASP Olaide Rawlings, informed the court that the offenses were committed on July 20, 2025, around 2:50 p.m. in the Gasline vicinity along Ilogbo Road, Ota, located in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State. (NAN)
