Governor Uba Sani has commenced the construction and enhancement of the internal road network at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria, covering a distance of 60 kilometers.

At the groundbreaking ceremony held on Tuesday, the Governor emphasized that key components of the upgrade will include suitable drainage systems, improved lighting, pedestrian pathways, and routes accessible for individuals with disabilities.

He remarked, "Even though ABU is a federal institution, my administration is devoted to investing in education, which we consider a vital investment in our future. This belief drives us to back initiatives that eliminate learning obstacles and better the lives of students, staff, and the local communities."

The Governor asserted, "This road project represents our commitment to strengthening the physical infrastructure that underpins education, research, and learning within one of Nigeria's oldest educational institutions."

He elaborated that the initiative transcends mere asphalt and concrete laying, stressing its significance for safety, access, and dignity. Improved internal roads are expected to facilitate access for emergency and service vehicles, thereby enhancing campus safety.

Furthermore, he pointed out that the project will promote easier movement for both students and staff, bolster campus security, and create a more conducive environment for academic activities.

Governor Sani assured that the execution of the project will be governed by principles of quality and sustainability, following high engineering standards and using durable materials that respect the environmental landscape.

He highlighted how a well-structured road network would not only enable the university to host various academic functions such as conferences and convocations but will also attract more visitors and financial investments into Kaduna State.

Additionally, the Governor indicated that the project would generate socio- economic advantages, creating jobs for artisans and laborers, thus stimulating the economies of Sabon Gari, Zaria, and surrounding communities.

In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of ABU, Professor Adamu Ahmed, appreciated Governor Sani for his timely intervention in supporting the university, depicting the Governor's actions as both strategic and compassionate.

Professor Ahmed also expressed gratitude for recent land allocations to the university for staff housing, acknowledging that such gestures enhance staff welfare, institutional stability, and long-term viability.

He remarked, "By improving living conditions for our staff, you are fostering morale, productivity, and dedication—essential elements for any institution that aims for excellence."

The Vice Chancellor lauded Governor Sani's inclusive governance style, which he described as characterized by generosity, empathy, and foresight—crucial qualities of democratic leadership that have defined his administration.

He concluded by stating that the Governor's approach has restored confidence, fostered stability, and revived hope across Kaduna State within just two years, with institutions like ABU reaping the benefits.
