The Kaduna State Government has granted new plots of land to residents of Malali Low-Cost in Kaduna, who lost their homes during the demolitions undertaken by the Nasir El-Rufai administration.

Dr. Bashir Garba Ibrahim, the Director General of the Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS), presented the land titles to the beneficiaries, indicating that this move is part of Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to ensure justice for the victims.

During the ceremony, Dr. Ibrahim mentioned that these land allocations are a direct result of discussions that took place at a stakeholders meeting on January 21, which aimed to look into the circumstances that led to the demolitions by the former government.

He encouraged the recipients to commence development on their new plots promptly.

Furthermore, he advised against reselling the land, emphasizing the government's desire for the beneficiaries to become homeowners and contribute positively to the state's development.

Responding on behalf of the residents, Alhaji Mohammed Auwal, the chairman of the former Malali Low-Cost residents, expressed gratitude to Governor Uba Sani for attending to their long-standing concerns. He remarked on their nine-year struggle for compensation and acknowledged the efforts of the KADGIS Director General in facilitating the new land allocations.

Other residents also expressed their appreciation towards the Kaduna State Governor for his compassionate and people-oriented leadership style.

It is important to note that the Kaduna State Development and Property Company (KSDPC) issued a seven-day eviction notice to Malali Low-Cost residents in October 2020. At that time, residents protested the brief notice and requested a right of first refusal, leading to a temporary suspension of the eviction.

However, in March 2021, a new three-day eviction notice was issued, resulting in the demolition of over 80 structures after the notice lapsed. Since then, affected homeowners have been in discussions with the Kaduna State Government regarding compensation or alternative accommodations following the demolitions.
