A man identified as Daniel Odubanjo has been sentenced to six years in prison after he sexually assaulted two women, one of whom he confined in a train toilet.
The assaults occurred while Odubanjo was traveling on a service from Shenfield to Chelmsford on the 29th of November, 2024.
The victims were aged 21 and 17, with one of the victims falsely claiming to be 14 in a bid to stop the assault, as reported by the police.
On Monday, January 26, the British Transport Police released a video capturing the moment officers intercepted the train at Hatfield Peverel and arrested Odubanjo.
The 27-year-old resident of King Avenue in Clapham, South London, was found guilty of false imprisonment and two charges of sexual assault against women. He received a six-year sentence at Chelmsford Crown Court earlier this month in January 2026.
In addition to his prison term, Odubanjo was issued a sexual harm prevention order, which prevents him from being under the influence of any intoxicating substances while on public transport, or at any public transport stations or Network Rail properties.
According to the British Transport Police, Odubanjo aggressively knocked on the toilet door while the victim was inside. Once she opened the door, he forcefully pushed her back in, locked the door, and assaulted her.
The 21-year-old woman managed to open the door and called for help from another passenger, but Odubanjo pulled her back into the toilet, continuing the assault despite her screams.
It was only after she claimed to be 14 that he released her, allowing her to exit the train at Chelmsford.
Shortly after, he approached a 17-year-old girl, asking her inappropriate questions before exposing himself. When he went to the toilet, the teenager moved to another seat to join other passengers and disclosed what had happened to her.
However, Odubanjo returned and sat beside her, then proceeded to assault her. A nearby passenger intervened, pulling Odubanjo away from the girl.
British Transport Police officers were waiting at Hatfield Peverel station and arrested him on the spot.
Detective Sergeant Hayley Whyte stated, "Odubanjo targeted a young woman and a teenage girl in horrifying attacks only minutes apart. Both left the incidents traumatized and in distress due to his despicable actions."
She commended the victims for their bravery in coming forward to report his offenses.
