The United Nations has revealed that the continuing strife in Lebanon is inflicting severe harm on children, with the daily death or injury of approximately one classroom of children observed since the escalation of violence earlier this month.

As reported by the Lebanese health ministry, a minimum of 111 children have been killed, and 334 hurt due to Israeli airstrikes since March 2, when Hezbollah began launching attacks into Israeli territory, exacerbating the regional tension involving Israel.

A high-ranking official from UNICEF described the circumstances as children facing a grave price, advocating for immediate de-escalation and a political resolution to the ongoing war.

In a broader context, nearly 1,200 children across the region have reportedly lost their lives in recent weeks, including almost 200 in Iran, four in Israel, and one in Kuwait.

The Israeli government asserts that it does not intentionally target civilians and claims that warnings are given ahead of airstrikes to facilitate evacuations.

This conflict has also led to a significant displacement crisis, forcing over a million individuals, including approximately 350,000 children, to leave their homes in Lebanon. Many have sought refuge in overcrowded public facilities such as schools.

The educational disruption has dramatically affected learning, with numerous children either missing school or receiving minimal educational instruction. Schools have been transformed into shelters, further hindering access to proper education.

Families are facing harsh living conditions in these shelters, grappling with inadequate electricity, heating, clean water, and sanitation facilities.

UNICEF has been providing humanitarian assistance, offering water, sanitation supplies, warm clothing, and blankets to families impacted by the conflict, including those remaining in heavily bombarded areas of southern Lebanon.

The UN continues to implore all involved parties to safeguard civilian infrastructure and prioritize the safety and welfare of children ensnared in the conflict.
