The UN Security Council has denounced the recent terrorist attacks in Kwara State, which resulted in the deaths of over 160 individuals. The Council emphasized the need for accountability and justice for the perpetrators of these acts.

The UN Security Council has expressed its condemnation of the "heinous and cowardly" terrorist attacks that took place in Kwara State, leading to the loss of more than 160 lives.

The Council members highlighted the importance of ensuring that those responsible for the organisation, financing, and execution of these terrorists acts are brought to justice.

The attacks on the Nuku and Woro communities on February 3 also resulted in the kidnapping of many women and children and significant property destruction.

In a statement issued from New York, the Council reiterated that terrorism in all its forms poses one of the gravest threats to international peace and security.

Moreover, the Security Council urged all nations to actively support the Nigerian government in line with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.

The members clarified that terrorism is unequivocally criminal and unjustifiable, irrespective of its motives, whenever and wherever it occurs.

They reaffirmed the need for global cooperation to combat terrorism by all means permitted under the United Nations Charter and other international law obligations, including those related to human rights and humanitarian norms.

The Security Council offered its heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathy to the victims' families and the Nigerian people and government. They also expressed hopes for the swift recovery of those injured and a safe return for the individuals who were abducted.
