A United States congressman has formally asked King Charles III to meet with individuals who were victims of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein during the monarch's planned trip to the US. The appeal, sent via a letter on Monday, aims to ensure the King hears firsthand accounts of how powerful figures and institutions allegedly failed those affected by Epstein's network.

While the royal visit has not been officially confirmed, reports suggest King Charles and Queen Camilla are preparing for a trip to the US around the end of April. Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna, who was instrumental in legislation that prompted the US Justice Department to release Epstein-related documents last year, conveyed this request.

Khanna expressed that such a meeting would provide the King a private setting to interact with victims and gain a deeper understanding of the systemic issues that enabled Epstein's activities to persist for years. He emphasized in his letter that this matter extends beyond American borders.

The congressman pointed out Epstein's significant connections within the United Kingdom, particularly through Ghislaine Maxwell, and his associations with prominent British individuals and circles of influence. These links, Khanna argued, raise critical questions about how Epstein managed to maintain credibility, influence, and protection internationally for such an extended period.

Khanna also mentioned that members of the US Congress have sought testimony from Prince Andrew, the King's brother, and Peter Mandelson, a former UK ambassador to the US, concerning their alleged links to Epstein. Prince Andrew, who has since had his royal titles revoked due to the scandal, has not responded to the request and continues to deny any wrongdoing. He cannot be compelled by a US subpoena.

Should the visit materialize, King Charles and Queen Camilla are anticipated to travel to Washington, where they are scheduled to meet with President Donald Trump and, according to US media, address Congress. This visit is expected to occur in advance of the 250th anniversary celebrations of the US Declaration of Independence in July.

Buckingham Palace has previously stated that the King's compassion extends to "victims of any and all forms of abuse," but has not released a new statement regarding Khanna's specific request. The issue has gained renewed public attention in light of recent events involving Prince Andrew.

Last month, King Charles indicated that the Royal Family was prepared to assist authorities after his brother was apprehended and subsequently released on bail in connection with allegations of misconduct in public office. These allegations relate to his period serving as the UK's trade envoy between 2001 and 2011 and followed claims that he shared classified government documents with Epstein.

Furthermore, documents disclosed by the US Department of Justice in recent months contain photographs of Prince Andrew with Epstein, alongside other controversial images pertinent to the case. In 2022, Prince Andrew settled a lawsuit with his primary accuser, Virginia Giuffre, who alleged she was sexually assaulted at the age of 17. The settlement did not involve any admission of guilt.
