The Plateau State arm of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially announced that Vice President Kashim Shettima will arrive in the state on Tuesday to participate in the welcoming ceremony for Governor Caleb Mutfwang's membership in the ruling party.
On December 29, 2025, Governor Mutfwang resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) through a letter directed to the Ward Chairman of Ampang West Ward, which is located in the Mangu Local Government Area.
In his resignation letter, he referred to current political circumstances and his dedication to effective governance and public service as the reasons for his switch to a different political platform.
During a press conference held at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) headquarters on Monday, Rt. Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, who chairs the Central Planning Committee, confirmed Shettima's visit, stating he would be the Special Guest of Honour at the reception.
Wase further mentioned that the reception will also feature attendance from the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; Senate President Godswill Akpabio; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas; several state governors elected under the party, and various other leaders.
He urged the community members to remain peaceful and hospitable during the event, appealing to party supporters and residents to behave in accordance with the law. He emphasized the importance of cooperation with security personnel and event organizers to ensure that the reception proceeds smoothly.
"We encourage residents, party members, and well-wishers to act peacefully, lawfully, and responsibly, upholding the cherished values of unity, civility, and peaceful coexistence that Plateau State is well-known for.
"This significant reception is for all Plateau citizens, and its success heavily relies on our shared dedication to civility, mutual respect, and collaboration with security agencies and event organizers," he stated.
