Vice President Shettima Suggests Kaduna is Becoming a One-Party State Under Governor Sani

Vice President Kashim Shettima has observed that Governor Uba Sani's leadership is transforming Kaduna State into a dominant one-party system due to numerous defections from opposition parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He made these remarks during the commissioning of the Tudun Biri Resettlement Scheme.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has stated that Governor Uba Sani's administration is systematically steering Kaduna State towards becoming a one- party state, a development fueled by a significant influx of members from opposition parties into the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Shettima articulated this observation over the weekend at the commissioning of the Tudun Biri Resettlement Scheme, commending the governor for his strategic and inclusive approach to broadening the APC's political footprint across the state.

"Governor Uba Sani, we are most grateful. You are gradually turning Kaduna into a one-party state, with House of Representatives members representing Soba, Makarfi and Kudan on their way to the APC," the Vice President remarked.

Recalling the political landscape following the 2023 general elections, Shettima pointed out that the APC had experienced considerable setbacks in Kaduna State before the recent shift in political alliances.

"In 2023, we lost all three Senate seats to the PDP. Out of the 16 members of the National Assembly, the APC had only four. The PDP had 10, while Labour had two," he detailed.

He noted that the situation has since improved due to the "conscious and deliberate efforts" of Governor Sani and other party leaders, which has led to the defection of several prominent opposition figures to the APC.

"We have in our midst former Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero. We have Senator Sunday Marshal," he stated, highlighting key recent entrants.

Shettima further described the recent political shifts in Southern Kaduna as unprecedented, emphasizing that the zone had consistently elected senators from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since 1999.

"This is the first time in living memory that the APC has a senator in Southern Kaduna, due to the singular effort of Governor Uba Sani," he asserted.

He also announced the defection of a serving member of the House of Representatives from the Igabi Federal Constituency, an area he characterized as one of the largest constituencies in Nigeria, boasting approximately 600 polling units and 400,000 registered voters.

The Vice President attributed these defections to the governor's leadership style, which he believes has cultivated trust across various political and regional divides.

"This is leadership. Without your inclusive approach, I don’t think Sunday Marshal and other leaders in Southern Kaduna would have joined the APC," he commented.

Shettima also commended the Kaduna State Government for its collaborative efforts with the Federal Government on the Tudun Biri Resettlement Scheme, viewing it as a prime example of effective governance.

Governor Uba Sani, in his address, extended his gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for designating Tudun Biri as the inaugural beneficiary of the Resettlement Scheme for Persons Impacted by Conflicts, following the accidental bombing incident in December 2023.

He emphasized that this initiative underscores the principle that sustained peace is achieved not solely through security measures, but also through development, inclusivity, and the provision of economic opportunities.
