Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), delivered a stark warning on Saturday to governors and lawmakers, asserting that the repercussions of supporting political betrayal will ultimately come back to haunt them. He explained that those who align themselves with betrayers are destined for a grim fate, likening his caution to a "message from the gods."
During the opening of the headquarters for the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors in Port Harcourt, Wike made it clear that supporters of President Bola Tinubu in Rivers might not need the endorsement of an incumbent governor to rally for the president's re-election in 2027.
Wike pointedly cautioned that individuals who engage in political disloyalty will find themselves entangled in the same betrayal they have endorsed.
Having had a longstanding political conflict with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Wike expressed that those who betray will inevitably face the consequences of their actions due to the karmic laws of spirituality.
"Today is the 7th of February. Whoever is listening—be it a senator, a member of the House of Representatives, a minister, or a governor—you who support betrayal will face betrayal in your own life," the minister warned emphatically.
He outlined the emotional and physical ramifications of such disloyalty, asserting that his opponents would be rendered speechless when the situation turns against them.
"Betrayal is your destiny, and when you are betrayed, you will find yourself without a voice. You will face your downfall. The seeds you have sown will come back to you," he added.
Wike observed that while his own successor took months to turn against him, those currently aiding betrayers could anticipate immediate backlash from their chosen successors.
"Every governor in their second term, who aspires to install a successor while backing a betrayer—mark my words, you will not survive it. Your successor will turn against you without delay; mine took time, yours will be swift," he declared.
He emphasized that political loyalty is crucial both on spiritual and moral levels, insisting that those who betray will find it ubiquitous in their lives. He urged politicians to heed his advice seriously, warning that the current political dynamics reflect the consequences of their previous actions.
"You will reap what you sow," he reiterated, noting the importance of the infrastructure he inaugurated on Saturday—including a radio station and a situation room—as a base for supporters committed to President Bola Tinubu's "Renewed Hope" vision, contrasting those he described as disloyal.
Wike affirmed that various stakeholders, including senators and local government officials, do not require a governor's endorsement to mobilise for the president, stating, "We possess all necessary resources ourselves: senators, assembly members, council chairs, National Assembly representatives, and party chairpersons from APC and PDP. We’ve organized ourselves to make a commitment. If you support an individual, you don’t need that person’s resources; your commitment is what matters."
He applauded the coordinator of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Ambassador Desmond Akawor, recognizing his efforts in mobilizing grassroots support throughout the state. "Rivers State remains a no-go area, and I will reiterate that this State is entirely committed to Tinubu's cause," he stated, emphasizing the inauguration of local government and zonal coordinators across all 23 local councils.
In conclusion, Wike asserted that they do not need a governor to rally support for the president, stressing their preparedness and unity among party members and local leaders to push forward their agenda.
